APPEARANCE; Hiccup is an awkward, spindly teenager of about average height, and just about as average of an appearance to go along with it. He’s about as thin as a rail with a mop of tousled, brown hair. His eyes are bright green and his cheeks are dotted with freckles. He wears a thin, green tunic accompanied by darker green pants, along with a brown fur coat and fur lined boots to match. Both seem to be fashioned from some sort of unidentified animal hide. He also wears a belt that holds a small, concealed knife. Hiccup’s most notable feature of his appearance however is that he is missing his left foot, it being lost in a fight with a dragon (Red Death). In its place is a metal prosthetic.
PERSONALITY; Hiccup is not exactly the example of an ideal Viking. On the contrary, in comparison to the rest of the younger Vikings he is quite awkward, scrawny, and unbelievably clumsy. He might not be the strongest out there, but for what he lacks in strength he more than makes up for it with intelligence and ingenuity. Hiccup is incredibly smart and can fashion just about anything he imagines up, whether it be a trap, a saddle, a riding vest, or a prosthetic. On top of all of this, Hiccup is constantly trying to prove his worth to the entire village and, most importantly, his father Stoick- the chief of the Vikings. That tends to get him and others into a lot of trouble, since he’s more focused on getting appreciation and acceptance from his peers than he is on listening to orders he’s given.

Despite all of this, Hiccup has all the qualities of a great leader, though he didn’t realize that at first. One of his greatest traits is his sense of pity. He shows this when he releases Toothless after successfully capturing him, instead of killing him and bringing him back to the village. Even though in doing so he would have finally proven himself to everyone, he still couldn’t bring himself to do it. This is what inevitably changed everything for the Vikings forever, because Hiccup wouldn’t kill a dragon. While Hiccup’s sympathy can result in him being a bit naive, it still reveals in him a kind heart that most of the others don’t possess.

Though Hiccup is logical, smart, and has a sharp wit to match, he seems to often lose sight of his intentions in his excitement, leading to most of his inventions and ideas being not exactly fool-proof. He can also be sarcastic and has a very dry sense of humor.

One of of the biggest challenges Hiccup faces though, and one of his greatest fears, is not being accepted; that for the rest of his life he’ll just remain a disappointment to everyone around him, especially to his father. He’s constantly striving to live up to his father’s expectations, and will do whatever he has to to prove to everyone that he IS worth something, and that he wasn’t just a mistake.

In the end, Hiccup is a very bright kid, smart and well-rounded and an all around good person to everyone he comes across. He might be a bit awkward, but he definitely makes up for it with a big heart.

THIRD PERSON; With a heavy sigh, Hiccup folded his arms on the desk before him and dropped his head onto them, listlessly flicking a charcoal pencil that had rolled over to rest in front of his hand. At this point, he didn’t know what he was going to do. Well…not yet anyway.

Dragon training had been going a lot better than he expected. His time with Toothless had been the reason he’d been able to control the dragons as well as he had. Learning from the way the Nightfury acted in the cavern he was currently stuck in gave the Viking invaluable knowledge of how to deal with dragons. Of course, that lead to him excelling in the training above anyone else. He’d be lying if he said he minded the attention. It was the first time that anyone had given him a second glance since….well, since ever, really. For the first time, he was the center of attention.

But at what cost? What he was doing was dangerous, and he knew it. They were being trained to kill dragons, not keep them as pets. If anyone knew he was keeping a Nightfury, alive…he didn’t even want to think about it.

He didn’t want to think of how his father would react, especially. His father had been so proud of his recent exploits during training….Hiccup couldn’t ever remember a time he’d been more proud than recently. He couldn’t risk losing that. Not now.

Yet….he couldn’t help but feel that all of this couldn’t go as well as it was going forever. Hiding a dragon isn’t exactly an easy feat in the first place, and he knew he wouldn’t be able to keep him hidden indefinitely. Something was going to give, and Hiccup was worried that when it did, all of his success would come crashing down with it.

With a grimace, he used a free hand to slam shut the Dragon Manual, so he wouldn’t have to look at the picture of Toothless he’d sketched under the Nightfury section. For now he would just keep doing what he had been doing. Keep on impressing everyone, keep on hiding Toothless.

For now.
